The Arts at Grace series opens its 14th season at the newly renovated Grace and Holy Spirit Church on Sunday, October 1st at 3:00 pm. Grammy nominated tenor Daniel Bates will present a recital entitled “Songs from A Shropshire Lad.” The program features the poems of A. E. Housman set by three British composers: George Butterworth, John Ireland, and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Kerry Mizrahi will be the pianist.  For Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge , she will be joined by violinists Sarah Cummings and William Hurley, violist Max Buckholtz, and cellist Heidi Hoffman. Admission is free. The audience is invited to meet the performers at a reception following the performance.   Dan Bates is returning to The Arts at Grace after his outstanding performance in The Music of Rob Paterson last fall. Bates is widely recognized as a rising tenor of significant talent. He has won several prestigious competitions and was a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He has performed leading roles with Florida Grand Opera and Vero Beach Opera, and makes his Anchorage Opera debut this fall. Ithaca pianist Kerry Mizrahi is accompanist for the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble and appears frequently as a collaborative artist.  Violinist Sarah Cummings is a member of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra.  Joining her on violin will be William Hurley, member of both the Binghamton Philharmonic and the Tri-Cities Opera Orchestra. Violist Max Buckholtz is the Director of Journey West, an ensemble dedicated to celebrating cultural diversity. Cellist Heidi Hoffman is a member of the faculty of the Ithaca College School of Music. She has toured internationally with the American Symphony, Jupiter Symphony, and Tchaikovsky Chamber Orchestra.   The Arts at Grace is a community outreach of Grace and Holy Spirit Church supported by individuals, businesses, organizations and foundations from the greater Cortland community, including the Cortland Community Foundation, the Wilkins Foundation, and CNY Arts/NYSCA.
