Music’s Recreation is committed to making concert-going a pleasurable, fascinating activity. If they wish, kids are encouraged to sit on the carpet closer to the performers and narrator during this program of musical renditions of fairytales and legends. Ravel’s The Mother Goose Suite; a setting of Jorinda and Joringel by Tom Schneller; the “Notebook of Betty Sue Bach” by Peter Schickele (aka PDQ Bach); “Summer Dreams” by Amy Beach; “Serenade for a Doll” by Claude Debussy; and “Butterfly” by Edvard Grieg will be highlights of the program. Featured performers will be narrator Camilla Schade; conductor Ubaldo Valli; flutists Laura Campbell and Beth Kelly; clarinetists John Greenly and Lenora Schneller; violinist William Hurley; cellist Elisa Evett; percussionist Emily Ickes; and pianists William Cowdery and Karen Melamed Smith. Music's Recreation is devoted to presenting new kinds of concert formats that combine highest quality musical performances with interesting commentary in an informal atmosphere. The group’s music is often enhanced with dance, mime, poetry, and drama. Music’s Recreation hopes to bring newcomers to classical music and enrich the experience for seasoned listeners. Further information may be found on the website, at musrec.org. The Arts at Grace is a community outreach of Grace and Holy Spirit Church supported by many individuals, businesses, and foundations from the greater Cortland community. The series receives funding through CNY Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts. In order to make fine music accessible for all, there is no admission charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. For more information call (607) 753-3073 during business hours.
